CRISTINA NEWTON
Spanish-born Cristina (Navazo-Eguía) Newton first published two full-length collections -La Frontera and Rutas de Largo Recorrido- in her native language, with work also included in several anthologies. She now lives in Britain, where her poems have appeared in journals and been shortlisted or have run up at Bridport, Strokestown, Gregory O’Donoghue, Aesthetica and Nottingham. She won the Poetry London Competition 2011 with her poem “Edison Peña Runs the Six Miles”. She organises the Battered Moons Poetry Competition, now in its third year, supported by the Swindon Festival of Literature and Artswords. She is also involved in adult education, workshops and performances of poetry and flamenco hondo singing. She holds an MA in English Language and Literature from the University of Valladolid and has worked as a lecturer in Spain and UK. During 2011, she was part of the Travellers Without Baggage project, a tribute to Valerie Clarke.

Biography
My poems have appeared on the BBC Website, The Rialto, National Poetry Society Website, The New Writer and South magazines. I have performed poetry at Bath Literature Festival, Bath Poetry Café and Corsham Poetry Festival and at other poetry events in the South West region. I am the founder and organiser of Domestic Cherry,BlueGate Poets and assistant to Swindon Artswords Literature Development Worker. I facilitate workshops in prisons, councils and schools and MC Swindon’s popular Open Mic night at the Arts Centre in Old Town.
